Quick Hot Cross Buns

Cooking time:
15-30 minutes
Preparation time:
10-15 minutes
  • 250ml JUST MILK
  • 300g Flour
  • 7g yeast (1 sachet)
  • 1 tsp mixed spices
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 50g caster sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 50g softened butter
  • 100g raisins, Sultanas or currants
  • Grated zest of 1 orange
  • 1 egg
  • 50g plain flour mixed with water to form a paste.
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Tray
  1. Mix the flour, sugar, spice, yeast and salt in a bowl
  2. Slowly add JUST MILK to the mixture then add the butter and egg to form a soft dough.
  3. Mix in the dried fruits and orange zest.
  4. Turn onto a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes
  5. Place the dough in a clean bowl, cover with a tea towel and leave to rise for around an hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Once the dough has risen, knock the air out of it and then roll into a baguette shape.
  7. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces, form into bun shapes and place on a lightly floured baking tray. Cover with a tea towel and allow the buns to rise for a second time for 30 minutes.
  8. Brush with the beaten egg and finish your buns with a cross made from a paste of flour and water.
  9. Now simply bake in the pre-heated oven for 15-20 minutes until a lovely, golden brown.
